Journal Entry: Fri Apr 27, 2007, 4:44 PM
As my watcher, you probably enjoy the beauty of our planet and appreciate the hard work of those keeping it green and safe. Based on your comments and faves, most of you certainly enjoy looking at the exotic and/or rare animal photos found in my gallery. Because of that, you can imagine how much time I spend at zoos and aquariums studying and watching these magnificent creatures. It is a privilege to see certain species of endangered animals thriving through careful breeding programs--in hope to repopulate them back to the wild someday. So why am I upset?

Someone just sent me this [link] to some disturbing images of modern day hunters and their kills. One could argue that is a form of sport or it helps local economic growth with tourism. BS! Shooting a deer or wild turkey not exciting enough? Is there a real need to control over-population of elephants, zebras or leopards in Africa? How can an individual justify having a farm and raise lion cubs for game? Who benefits from this bloody business anyway? How can anyone sleep at night knowing they have killed an exotic creature not for self-defense, but just for fun?

Here's a thought... let's send all of them to a remote island (without their hunting gears) and give them some wild lions for company. Maybe go back in a month and check on the animals to make sure there is still enough live stock for them to eat. If not, ship in more former hunters to feed the lions.

This journal entry won't change the way some people think, but I gave it a shot (with my camera) anyway.
Peace!

Those hunters are really sick hunting endangered animals. I agree. Feed them to the lions.

I don't see anything to be proud about shooting a defenseless animal for "sport". Let's see how the hunters like it, when they get a sharpen stick and a rock to defend themselves against a lion or a leopard.

I wonder how people can sit there smiling and being proud about slaying something as majestic as a lion. All we can wish for is that one day they make a mistake and the lions get there revenge, or they get trampled by an elephant...

Im surprised such things are legal

Omg, what?!?!?! That's sick.

I thought it was illegal. Isn't it illegal to hunt animals in safaris? It was when we lived in Zimbabwe. That's so tragic. The three most revolting pics I think were the two when those hunters were 'dancing' with the dead leopard. That is truly very sick. And the other one with the two zebras and everyone smiling. HOW do people get pleasure from killing those animals for pleasure, seriously, HOW?! And the crudest thing is that people are raged when a person is killed by a lion or snake or whatever but suddenly when people kill animals, it's like... oh okay then. AHHH!

It never ceases to amaze me how it's always the small things that really matter...~

Perhaps there is a way we could make a stand! Create a group called "Shoot this," full of photographers and supporters. Although we couldn't stop them, perhaps in the awareness we can get someone who can--do so...

We could have a Shoot This Gallery...ohh the ideas are endless...

We could do something..Dont you think?

I will never understand the mentality of sport hunters. I just don't get it. They talk about these kinds of things on discovery channel/animal planet shows sometimes, most recently one of the "Planet Earth" episodes. It just pisses me off to see people try to defend it. I'm sorry there is nothing they can say that can ever make me understand the need to kill an animal.

Your island idea is perfectly fair. If only we could actually do it.
~supremestar:iconsupremestar: Apr 27, 2007, 5:57:40 PM
That is a really good idea. It is much more realistic than throwing them on an island, though that idea is superb as well.
